History

The dedication of four generations have resulted in important investments in machines and human resources, which have marked the constant growth across the years.

Cattaneo Meccanica sets its roots back in 1944.

In those years the craftsmanship of Giuseppe Cattaneo and his sons, Romolo and Giulio, was dedicated to the maintenance of saw mills in the valleys around Bergamo, and bell towers.

At the end of the ’40s, Giovanni Romolo Cattaneo, helped by his devoted and indefatigable wife Riva Cecilia Irene, whom everyone knew as Clelia, took the lead of the company, making his route as the true founder of an activity that was fulfilling the local demand of mechanical manufacturing.

Between the ’50s and the ‘60s, thanks to significant financial efforts, the company Cattaneo Romolo came to the stage as a manufacturer of presses for cloths forming and provider of turning and milling, as well as steel fabrication.

In the ‘70s a new factory was built and, through the acquisition of new machine tools, La Meccanica of Cattaneo Romolo specialised as sub-contract producer of medium-heavy parts, setting also the ground as equipment manufacturer.

In the following decade, under the management of Romolo’s son, Ulisse, the company changed his name to Cattaneo Meccanica, and focused more and more on the development and production of machines for the steel and cement industries and industrial equipment in general.

In the ‘90s Cattaneo Meccanica has continued its growth: the manufacturing area has been enlarged, the existing equipment has been replaced with up to date machine tools with CNC, and finally the ISO certification (ICIM) has been achieved.
